Downriver Health is committed to providing services and employment opportunities without discrimination. This notice describes your rights and our obligations under applicable federal and state civil rights laws, including those governing participation in Medicaid-funded programs administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

Our Non-Discrimination Policy

Downriver Health does not discriminate on the basis of:

This policy applies to all aspects of our services, employment, and program administration, including but not limited to: eligibility screening, enrollment assistance, caregiver hiring, hours of care, and all client and employee interactions.

Legal Basis

Our non-discrimination practices are required by and consistent with:

  • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964— prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in programs receiving federal financial assistance.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973— prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in federally funded programs.
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)— prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment and public accommodations.
  • The Age Discrimination Act of 1975— prohibits discrimination based on age in federally funded programs.
  • Michigan Civil Rights Act (MCL 37.2101 et seq.)— prohibits discrimination in employment and public accommodations in Michigan.
  • MDHHS Non-Discrimination Requirements— applicable to providers participating in Medicaid and the Home Help Program.

If you have limited English proficiency and need language assistance to understand our services or this notice, please contact us. We will make reasonable efforts to provide interpretation or translated materials at no cost to you.

Reasonable Accommodations

Individuals with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations to access our services, participate in our programs, or apply for employment. Please contact us to discuss your needs. We will respond to accommodation requests promptly and in good faith.

Filing a complaint with us does not waive your right to file with an external agency, and you may file with both simultaneously.

No Retaliation

Downriver Health strictly prohibits retaliation against anyone who files a discrimination complaint, assists in an investigation, or exercises any right protected by law. If you believe you have been retaliated against, please contact us or file a complaint with the agencies listed above.
